I'd say that these sets are far from essential, unless you need the records, the music is often great although the first set is particularly weak with many poor choices, but if you have original UK pressings, either EMI or RCA then you don't need these, I only have a few original US and Canadian pressings and I haven't directly compared them, but my feeling is they will also sound much better, however these current pressings will beat Scorpios for what it's worth. Click to expand.I haven't played them all, but I'd sum the three vinyl box sets up as alright, but also a missed opportunity, what I mean is nothing is bad, the sleeves are alright and the pressings are alright and the mastering is okay, but nothing is above the current average, so they are by no means bad, but a little more care and attention, some more money invested and some booklets including a nice sessionography, perhaps some alternative takes, (Detroit Mix), and these could have been definitive editions for an artist whose music deserves such.
